Humidifier adds moisture to the air which can be beneficial to people with respiratory problem. Humidifiers help to moisture the nasal, throat and lung passages thus making it easier for air to pass through. This effect will also reduce snoring during sleep.

One study found that after adding the influenza virus into the air with a simulated cough at a humidity level above 40 percent rapidly deactivated the virus particles thus making it less likely to be infectious. The study also found after 23 hours, 100% of virus in humid air were all dead.
